I moved back on Wednesday. I was somewhat excited to be coming back, though also miss home a bit. I’m glad to be able to practice on the Steinways again though.
I came back with more stuff than I went home with. I had my iPod and dock of course, and my talking microwave, which my mom showed me how to use earlier in the week.
I’m always afraid of forgetting something, and this time I really did. Wednesday night, I realized that I had forgotten my phone charger! That made me nervous, because that’s kind of my connection to home, I guess. My mom sent it down though, and I got it today.
My schedules been changed quite a few times, because of the difficulty of trying to find a core class that is in College Hall, or can be moved there. So as it stands now, I have two night classes. I hope it stays that way, because I don’t have any classes on Fridays. They still need to see if they can move the Monday night class to College Hall, though, as I hate walking all the way to the other end of campus to go to Fisher Hall, and it’s quite difficult to do the diagonal crossing.
Anyway, I have seven classes, but it doesn’t seem like that much when I go through them. They include:
- Piano lessons (3 credits)
- Piano ensemble (2 credits)
- Choir (1 credit)
- World music (2 credits)
- Performance seminar (0 credits)
- Philosophy (3 credits)
- Honors seminar: Suffering in Katrina (3 credits)
Yeah, a lot of music classes are one or two credits, or sometimes even zero credits. The performance seminar is zero credits, but I am still required to go to 10 of them. They hold them most Mondays and Wednesdays, and they last for about 50 minutes.
The choir is one credit, despite meeting for as long as a three-credit class.
The piano lesson is 3 credits, and we only meet for 50 minutes a week, though I’m required to practice at least three hours a day.
I’m still trying to get up to three hours of practice. Sometimes I push it off throughout the day, and then the day goes by so quickly that I don’t get a chance to practice very much. For instance, today, I had a mobility lesson at 9:30 to learn how to get to my classes. I went to lunch at 11:30, then had an appointment somewhere at 12:30. Then I met with J at twenty till 2 so I can relearn the Brahms rhapsody I learned a year and a half ago. I probably should have practiced at 3:00, but I was getting pretty hungry so I went back up to the wing and waited for dinner. After dinner I told myself I’d practice, but then I got tired. Then I said I’d practice after a short nap, but ended up sleeping from 6:30-10:00.
That was probably a bad move, seeing as I have to be somewhere at 9:00 tomorrow morning.
Anyway, I guess I have to make a more concrete practice schedule. I think a big part of it is I just don’t want to go outside, lol. It’s way too cold.
So that’s my first few days here. I’m still trying to get back into school mode, which isn’t easy when I’ve only had one class so far. The other two I was supposed to have on Thursday were pushed off until next week.
